Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp dried yeast
  • 3 fl oz warm water
  • 1 lb strong plain flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tspn salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 8 oz butter
Instructions
  1. Activate the yeast by adding it to the warm water with ½ tspn sugar, stir thoroughly and leave till a substantial ‘head’ has formed on the surface.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar and salt in a pre-warmed ceramic bowl and add the yeast mixture. Combine the ingredients in the bowl to form a dough
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured board and knead thoroughly till a smooth, elastic texture is achieved
  4. Flatten out the ball of dough and dot it with 1/3 of the butter
