Bread Special: ‘Sugar & Spice’ Easter Treats with Rob on 21 Mar 2020

This March, we’ll be sharing the secrets of delicious sweet buns, so you’ll have plenty of time to perfect them before Easter!

Rob will help you get the perfect consistency for your enriched starter dough, then show you how to adapt this for two recipes: hot cross buns and Chelsea buns. Your hot cross buns will be crossed with pastry and glazed with a delicious mix made from apricot jam. Your Chelsea buns will be filled with soaked dried fruit, orange rind, mixed spice, brown sugar and cinnamon – all those mouthwatering flavours that bring these quintessential 18th-century English buns to life.

Mmmm, we can taste them already!

For those with a savoury tooth, Rob will be teaching you how to make a mouth-watering focaccia and hot & cold drinks included.

This session is suitable for all levels of experience, from absolute beginners to those wishing to further develop their skills. For vegan requirements, please contact [email protected] when booking.

All ingredients are bought locally at Unicorn Co-operative Grocery and other local independent shops.

Jennifer – great session. Rob is clearly passionate and that came across. Good to talk about practical bread making as well as artisan bread.
Chris – enjoyed making a basic loaf, fascinated by the difference between a supermarket bread and home made artisan bread. The science behind bread making.

Simone – really good to cover the different bread making methods. Also the information ablout the flour and other ingredients was useful as this would not be included in ordinary cookbooks.

Concessionary Guidelines

To enable as many people as possible to access our cooking classes we have introduced a 50% OFF fee for those who genuinely have little or no income. By this we mean students or those on benefits.

  • We can only provide two concessionary tickets per session.
  • As a not for profit social enterprise with no core funding, our mission is to be as inclusive as possible, so we rely upon the honesty & integrity of those booking at a concessionary rate.

For anyone able to fund places for people in extreme hardship, we would gratefully appreciate funding to set up specific sessions in the community to address an urgent communal need.
