There are many ways you can support our work, from buying a place on a Cookery School class or Foraging Expedition, to booking a team building activity, joining our Business Membership Scheme, arranging a collection of pre-loved kitchen equipment for our ‘Kitchen Kit Call Out’ or volunteering your time to support our many community projects.
We are hugely grateful for the vast support we receive from our customers, donors, volunteers, business members - without all of you we would not be able to do what we do.
We understand that making a financial donation is not possible for everyone, especially as we see rapidly increasing costs of living. If you are able to donate, you will be helping us to support our work to improve access to good food and cooking-from-scratch skills in some of Greater Manchester’s most deprived and food insecure areas. Please see our most recent NewsFEED to find out more about how we have been supporting Greater Manchester communities at-risk of food poverty and the amazing work achieved by so many caring people coming together. You can make a one-off donation or set up a regular payment here.
Without our amazing team of over 100 volunteers, we simply would not be able to deliver our extensive range of cookery classes, courses, workshops and demos to help fight food poverty across the region. Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people, gain new skills, strengthen your employability, learn more about sustainability and the food system and to make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing hardship and hunger.
Plus, our volunteer roles ‘tick the boxes’ of the NHS’s ‘5 Steps To Mental Wellbeing’ which are to ‘connect with other people’, ‘be physically active’, ‘learn new skills’, ‘give to others’ and to ‘pay attention to the present moment’.
Whoever you are, whatever your skills – we’d love to have you onboard! There’s no minimum time commitment, and we will provide training wherever it is needed.

Volunteering with us is great! Don’t take our word for it – here are some quotes from our lovely volunteers:
‘I was quite nervous when I first came to the kitchen, but people were so incredibly nice. The head cooks are brilliant at giving the assistant cooks tasks we are comfortable with. My first day I was peeling potatoes and chatting with the others, and was a really enjoyable day. The people being so lovely is my lasting memory.’
‘Volunteering leaves me feeling happy and inspired, because I was helping people and interacting in the kitchen with some lovely humans. It also gave me self-confidence because everyone was so lovely and it was such a good environment.
‘Laughter, exchange of ideas, learning - all part of my lasting memory volunteering for CGF’
‘Sharing a good meal with my co-workers, something that we all appreciate as it felt like eating out with friends rather than a break at work. Leaving the kitchen with a smile and saying no need to thank me, it should be me thanking you to have this opportunity. Great food memories, new ingredients, new recipes and some good friends! And very good music too. Also, last week we got a message from St Aidans Church, praising our work and explaining where some of the food goes. It left me in tears, I felt very touched, proud of our work and sad, with a more personal resolution to continue working to reduce social inequality.’
As an asylum seeker, I am not allowed to work, but the pandemic has made me feel stressed and anxious. Volunteering was a good opportunity to show gratefulness to this country and be useful to others as well. I am sure that volunteering has made me more aware and sensitive to others' needs. It feels so good to see people smiling when saying thanks for the meals I help prepare. It is a way for me to give back all I have got from others. Kitchen, Cleaning and Packing Assistant, 49

Cracking Cause Of The Year
Is your school, group, club, workplace or society looking for a cause to support? Would you like to play a part in fighting hunger and food poverty in Greater Manchester?
The why not adopt us as your Cracking Good Cause of the Year?
We will support your group to organise memory-making and team-bonding fundraising activities, which will help us to continue our vital work sharing affordable cooking-from-scratch skills and increasing access to healthy ingredients in some of Greater Manchester’s most marginalised and food-insecure communities.
Every £500 raised will support us to run 2 community cooking sessions for up to 20 people, where we support people experiencing homelessness, mental health problems, disabilities, poverty and a range of other complex disadvantages to improve their diet via cooking-from-scratch and introduce people experiencing social exclusion to the benefits of social eating.
With your help, we can help to break down the barriers faced by side-lined communities to eating well and enjoying the benefits of good food. We believe that access to good food is a human right, and we are passionate about ensuring no-one is left behind in our fight for food security across Greater Manchester and beyond.
If you’d like to adopt us as your cause of the year, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
